I’d like to know, if there’s any possibility to stop the truncation in datatables or to force its implementation?

In this ticket the implementation has been moved to the 2.2 release, but has also been moved several times before.
Is there a chance to get the implementation in an earlier release? If not, when will 2.2 be presumably released?
