If you're talking about click heat maps, please see http://dev.piwik.org/trac/ticket/73

I am currently working to write a Addon for Piwik, but i haven't much free time so it may take longer time :-)

Ok. My gut feeling at this time is to leave this to a third-party plugin. After Piwik 1.0 is out, we can re-evaluate proposals and submissions for inclusion.

Please see:
http://dev.piwik.org/trac/wiki/PiwikDevelopmentProcess

Factors working against inclusion are:
- the mouse event recording is visitor+page specific
- this is also potentially a lot of data to transmit and store thru Piwik
- in the absence of heat maps, there's very little to be aggregated and reported statistically

This looks interesting - it would be a very good idea to write a specification before doing too much coding, as we can help defining the feature set and the scope of the plugin. My main concern, like vipsoft, would be around data size and, but this is probably not easily doable, aggregating this data to have a global view on how mouse interactions happen on a given page. Let us know what your thoughts are

Small Update:

just saw in the "comments" of the Page that the system is also capable of creating 2 heatmaps: one of type "Fog" and the other one of type "Shadow"

see here:

smt.speedzinemedia.com/smt/comments.php

Quote: "ani: I've implemented 2 kind of heatmaps, called 'fog' and 'shadow' (see figure 4 in this paper). I'll try to release version 2.0.1 hopefully in 1 week, if I have enough free time to do the last tuning."

It will be an amazing feature... IMHO the amount of data will be not so huge... As smt log in particular the coordinates x,y of the mouse movements, all this infos are simple text data.

In any case...
@Anybody
Are you still working on the third-party plug-in? I'm very interested on it, and it will be nice to work together....
Also if other are interested on it... please let us know....

Cheers

Is there any development on a plugin for mouse tracking? I'd like to see if I can help.

I think the data from mouse tracking can be put to good analysys, such as play the user's mouse movements, click heatmap, mouse movement heatmap.

I like the the mouse move heatmap, that clicktale have developed (www.clicktale.com/product/mouse_move_heatmaps). I think this is a better heatmap than the mouse click heatmap.

Any news on that idea?

I know there is:
http://dev.piwik.org/trac/ticket/73

But this is not the same as:
http://smt.speedzinemedia.com/demos.php
http://www.patrick-wied.at/static/heatmapjs/

Especially tracking the mouse movement - not just the clicks wouldt be great.

That real awesome in my web-store marketing research! Sort of anolog of eye-traking in FMCG retail research!
