Tracking play button on WP audio player

I’m having a bit of a hard time with this. I want to track each time that a play button is clicked on the Wordpress audio player. I found this post in the forums, https://forum.matomo.org/t/can-i-track-as-a-goal-when-a-video-is-watched/14967 and followed the event tracking and goal tracking links that were in a reply. I’m just not really understanding how to go about this. I see on the Event Tracking page where I can add the JavaScript into the Tracking Code, but I’m not sure to connect to the play button. I found that there is a play event for the WP audio element, but I’m not sure to do it. Can someone give me a place to start? I am using Piwik 2.16.2. Thanks for any help!

We now have a Media Analytics plugin that tracks Videos & Audio!

More information is available here: http://www.media-analytics.net/ The plugin gives useful insights into media / video / audio analytics and adds many new reports, widgets and segments to Piwik.

Works with HTML5 video & audio, Vimeo and YouTube out of the box. Support for other players can be added easily and is documented in the developer docs. We are also happy to add support for more players upon request, please ping us. After installation the plugin will in most cases directly start tracking data see the setup guide
